You spring out from behind the tree trunk and bolt it out of there! One of the guards notices you and gives chase, jumping the ditch and running after you. Seeing as you’re not encumbered as he is, you manage to get out of his sight quickly.
It’s not over yet, though: the guards will probably be searching for you now. You throw in several switchbacks and roundabouts to throw them off of your trail. Unfortunately, you are now lost on the mountain without Eustace’s guidance, and you have only half a bag of foraged goods with you. The sun is setting; you’ll have to make your way back to camp alone… somehow.
